Poured from a growler into a shaker pint glass. An aggressive pour produces about 3/8 inch of white, frothy head. Despite the general lack of head, that which remains proves fairly sticky. The beer is a pale amber, hazy, and with moderate carbonation.
Not much of an IPA aroma here, with really just a smidgeon of pine and citrus aroma. The flavor is a bit more hop forward, with a fairly rich malty base. It's plenty bitter, but seems to generally lack the fruity and piney notes that I've come to expect in an American IPA. I wouldn't exactly give it a thumbs down, but nothing special here either. Average, or maybe even below average, for this particular style.
This is drinkable but pretty pedestrian for an IPA. What the heck is a "session" IPA anyway? This is more like an ordinary pale ale, both in terms of body and of hop qualities. While definitely bitter, it lacks the dank floral, citrus and pine aromas that characterize most beers of this style.
