This well hopped Pale ale is not for the faint of heart. It appeals to those who want a well balanced hoppy ale with aroma, flavor and bitterness working together. To showcase a beer that has been a staple for hundreds of years the crispness of the hops are accentuated by the local water and the use of a unique variety of hops that is new to the market. A medium bodied beer that has a long, complex finish; Shale Pale Ale is sure to be your favorite.

At this tiny brewry in Butt Montana (sic) because the "TheGreatReverend" wanted to go to Quarry brewing company in the middle of Montana for some reason. So I happily stayed around in the intense sun and 0 % humidity with three or four hours of sleep waiting for the brewery to open. We tried to amuse ourself in town but that didn't last long.
The brewery is located in what appears to be a ghost town. Apparently the real Butt Montana moved and left the downtown area to the tumble weeds.
Wiseman Justin Reporting on scene Sunday 25, 2010 reviewing their Shale Pale Ale (Hey that Rhymes!)
Appearance: Imagine a pale ale without carbonation. Looks casked maybe. Man I don't know. No head, no lacing, it's amber and cloudy. Looks like a home brew. (2.5)
Smell: GRAPEFRUIT. Too much. I don't even get hops. Just... Grapefruit. Maybe some other fruits. But it doesn't smell like a pale ale. Still it's pleasant enough. (3.0)
Taste: You really notice the lack of carbonation. No Bite. Slight hop after taste. No sizzle, no rock and roll. No soul. It's just nothing compared to Sierra Nevada's Torpedo or most pale ale's I've had. Stilll it's not terrible. (2.5)
Mouthfeel: Needs carbonation. It'll bring some much needed mouthfeel characteristics that this beer is lacking. In the brewery's defense they took it off the carbonation early because they ran out of the last keg. Bad move. (2.5)
Drinkability: Still, despite all it's flaws, it is a really, and I mean really drinkable beer. For the residents of Butte, Montana This might be the best thing they can get their hands on.
Note to Butte, Montanians: Sorry for talking so much trash about your city. I actually had a really lovely time at your restaurant (I think it was called Montana Club) and our server Vince was awesome and hooked us up with free samples of beer from Big Sky Brewing company. Thanks Vince! (5.0)
