Vintage 2012 - bought ages ago from Trembling Madness in York and stashed away in a cupboard. A 500ml bottle with a BB of Nov 2014, so it's well out of date. The label describes it as being brewed with 5 malts and 4 hop varieties.
A: Poured into a pint mug. Bottle conditioned. A dark, hazy reddish-amber colour with plentiful carbonation. Yields a smallish head of creamy tan foam that lasts for a few minutes before settling as a persistent surface layer.
S: Aroma of vaguely fruity malt with hints of mustiness, earthy yeast, oxidation and a touch of mould. Unimpressive, though quite low-key.
T: Tastes of mildly fruity malt with notes of earthy yeast, mustiness, faint dried fruit, oxidation, a hint of mould, harsh stewed leaves and a touch of cardboard in the background. A subtle bitterness upon swallowing. Not brilliant.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with spritzy carbonation and decent body for the style. Aftertaste of musty, earthy yeast, oxidised malt and harsh stewed leaves.
O: Meh - not particularly enjoyable. However, that is entirely my own fault for sitting on this brew as long as I did. I believe they do a different version of this each year so I will have to try and sample a more up-to-date bottle. A lesson in the perils of leaving 'vintage' beer too long.
