Brewpub bar and restaurant, in an older building by the train tracks. stopped here for a growler fill on our way through town. It was during lunch time and the two waitresses were a bit overwhelmed with serving tables (there was no bar seating due to COVID restrictions at the time), so the service was a bit slow. They didn't use a fill tube so they had to wait forever to finish the growler, plus the keg kicked and I only got about 3/4 of a full growler. The beer (a Black IPA) was okay. good variety of styles available though - amount a dozen house brewed beers. I would give them another shot if I am ever in Wellsboro again.

The food here has always been incredible, but now the affable owner is purchacing the old railroad station across the street for a brewery. He is currently offering 4 of his own brews, inclufing a pumpkin ale, and an absolutely world class porter.
I went for the (18) mussels in garlic sauce, but i stayed for this porter. It's not easy to say this, but i think i found an EddyFitz killer in this quaint north central PA town!

I make it to the Wellsboro House at least 3-4 times per month, lately, so I feel qualified to make this review now.

I'll talk about the beer, since that is all anyone cares about here. They have somewhere between 14-16 tap lines, but the variety is lacking. 3-4 light macros always on tap. Blue Moon and Shock Top. Guinness, Harp and Smithicks. As far as micros. Longhammer IPA is always on. Usually a flavored wheat (Abita or Sam Cherry....). Railbender (Erie Brewing) and Victory get some true micro play here but unfortunately the Victory choices are never sessionable...I have only seen golden monkey.

The owner (great guy) recently told me he was thinking about adding another 4-6 taps and I nodded my head, but was thinking WHY? To add more lack of variety?

Would love to see some better reprensentation from the PA micro scene. Afterall, this is a top tier state for beer and I know Troegs, Victory and Stoudt's are in this county. I pick up cases from the local distributor every week! Show the state some love!

Do not get me wrong. If you are looking for beer this is the spot...though Mama's Mug has a VERY decent bottle selection...if you can stomach the smoke....I cannot. That being said, if you are looking for dinner and a beer or two, then this is the spot in Wellsboro.

edit: Thought I needed to revise my review. This place is THE spot for good beer in Tioga County. The additional taps that were added are dedicated to PA micro brews. A better variety now and it is always enjoyable talking beer with the owner. Great guy and great place. More things to come, from what I hear.

My wife and I vacationed in Wellsboro recently. We stayed three nights. By the third night I had given up on finding good beer. Every establishment we visited had no selection to speak of and on top of that, the beer was stale and obviously had not been kept refrigerated properly.

By chance, on the third night we stopped at the Wellsboro House. They had an excellent selection, especially considering the area. The beer was crisp and fresh and obviously well maintained. I commented to the waitress how pleased I was with their beer and before long the owner was at our table. He was very enthusiastic about his beer. We talked at length about how hard it was for establishments like his to procure the better micro brew offerings. He also pointed out his religious, weekly flushing of the lines. I was grateful for the input and the excellent beer.

Any who venture to the Pine Creek Gorge and wish to have a good meal and some great beer, stop here. You won't be disappointed.

Sincerely,
Mike Long

A nice sort of hidden kind of place which is easy to find if you ask someone where the old Wellsboro train station is, there is TV and NFL is a feature for the season because of people from out of town either hunting or sight seeing.

the atmosphere is very pleasant and bright and clean and this is a historic old hotel that has been gutted and restored recently and redone very nicely with a art deco bar back from the 40's

the beer selection is decent considering the location I enjoyed some Railbender, Troeganator, pilsner urqel, there are 16 taps which about 10 are in constant rotation with micros the owners are kind of new at the micros but sure seem to know about the good beer thing, the food is very good and fresh and the service is friendly and courteous.

beer to go is currently being worked on and developing there selection
