An American version of a Belgian Abbey. A strong ale with a rich, toasted caramel malt flavor and aroma and a slightly hoppy finish. Brewed with malted barley, wheat, and Hawaiian turbinado.

On tap at Thunder Canyon Brewstillery in the Tucson International Airport.
This one pours a dark steely amber color, with a small head, and a good bit of lacing.
This smells like spiced bread, dark fruit, floral hop character, and caramel.
This was listed as a strong ale at the airport bar, but I've also seen it listed as a dubbel. Whatever it actually is, it's a pretty solid beer. It's got a nice spiced and caramelly malt character, with a touch of floral hop character, and a decent bit of dark fruit as well.
This is creamy, with not too much booziness to it, and a pretty good drinkability.
Whether this is a dubbel or a strong ale doesn't really matter to me - it tasted pretty good, and not enough breweries attempt either style.

A truly exceptional American Strong Ale. Beautiful copper color and a smooth mouth feel. This beer is malty with a low hop profile - smoother than many strong ales, and is a little sweet without being boozy (despite an 8.6 ABV). Extremely good!

Growler fill at TW. Abv indicates 8.6 on this batch. This has been classified as a strong ale and dubbel. To me this is somewhat in between a dubbel and a scotts ale/strong ale. Very malty and carmelly with low ibu. Very good.

Pours a half finger of yellow-tan head over a clear mahogeny copper liquid. Smells belgian yeast spicey, raisin, rummy, esters (pear, green melon, watermelon), light chocolate, and modest clean alcohol. Yum!
Tastes wonderful. Delicious malt sweet is balanced by drying alcohol, very mild clovey edge, and a gentle peppery zip in the finish. Malt flavors are lightly chocolate and some vienna/munich. vanilla, and white grapes. Esters are pear, raisin, and watermelon. Clove, nutmeg, and woody waxes. Finish dries out to mild oak character, a dash of lemon, and a light baker's chocolate. light, yet somewhat silky mouthfeel is wonderful. Warming alcohol in the stomach and a drying spice in the mouth.
Delicate, balanced, flavorful and delicious. I'm not a fan of belgian-styled beers, but this one was stunning.

Poured from an hour old growler
The beer summons a 1/2 finger thick, amber tinged, tan colored head that quickly recedes to a ring of foam. The beer is a brilliantly clear, rich red color that has a tint of amber to it. The aroma is fairly clean, but with a prominent fruitiness that reminds me of sweet plums, red delicious apples and raisins. The aroma is rounded out by a touch of clove and some malty notes of caramel and toasted grain.
Fairly dry up front, it moves to a light sweetness that is almost a product of the prominent fruit character. Finishes with a touch of spiciness and a light bitterness, which combine to add a bit of a bite. Sweet fruit notes of raisins & prunes intermingle with spicy notes of clove, ginger, a hint of cardamom and a peppery note that is as much from the carbonation as from the fermentation profile. The beer has a mixed profile on the palate. On the one hand the sweet fruitiness adds a heft to this beer that can at times be a touch cloying, yet overall this remains fairly easy drinking, though perhaps not quaffable.
All in all a decent attempt, I certainly can, and in fact will with a growler of it, quaff a couple pints of this in an afternoon.
