Had a pint on tap at Thunder Canyon.
Dark yellow/orange with a thin off white head, not great retention.
Smell was weak and indistinct; kinda malty, nothing really going on.
The taste was cloyingly malty and heavy. Not much going on here either, mostly too sweet, overbearingly malty, and nothing like a witbier. There was some fruit notes, peach maybe. Tasted like a bad Belgian blonde or Tripel. Lingering unpleasant aftertaste. My friend was with me who will drink about any craft or macro and he found it pretty bad too.
The texture was too thick and kind of sticky, a little flat.
Not drinkable at all for me, made me grimace every swallow. My friend had to finish (chug) it for me.
Nothing at all like any witbier I've had, and just generally not very good. Go for something else at TCB, they have some other decent stuff.

On tap; August 2010
Arrives with a hazy, straw yellow color and is topped by a thin, ring of a off-white colored head. The beer up front smells of citrus and wheat plus some citrus cleaner like note. Up front there is a nice, grassy wheat like note that quickly disappears underneath the citrus character. The citrus character seem accentuated by some coriander character that also has a hint of earthy spiciness to it.

The flavor tastes of fermented orange juice up front and finishes with an aftertaste of orange cleaner that seems to be a bit heavy on the lingering phenolics. This has quite a prickly carbonation to it, which helps to balance the thicker than usual body that this beer has. This has a really interesting soapy note to it, that is quite distracting and even annoying in the finish. Up front this is fairly inoffensive, but the finish definitely has issues. Up front the citrus character accentuates a touch of tartness; for the body this beer has it is not really all that sweet, which is definitely nice. As the beer warms more of the sweetness starts to come out. The cleaner note in the finish seems to be reduced just a touch as it warms, though not enough to allow me to really enjoy the flavor of this beer. The cleaner note in the finish might be a dirty, soapy, coriander character as it seems somehow grassy, perhaps a bit herbal in a dirty sort of way. This is actually a bit hot in the finish too, seemingly from higher alcohols that likely accentuate the cleaner flavors found in this beer.

This actually doesn't smell half bad, but the finish of the flavor definitely doesn't do much for me. I wonder if this was fermented with the clean, house American Ale yeast; that really might be what has made this taste so weird, it is definitely quite a bit different from any other Wit I have had. Unfortunately one of the worst Wits I have ever had. On the other hand I am wondering how strong this beer is, it seems to have an awful lot of higher alcohols for a standard low gravity Wit. Definitely a bit surprising given the generally high technical standards that the beers from this brewery usually hit.
