This Barley Wine tops the charts! Big, complex and thick, this beer is a meal in a glass. It warms on the way down and for quite a while afterwards. This beer undergoes three yeast fermentations and spending over 120 days in the fermenter. When you are in an adventurous mood, try this international classic.

On tap at Dragonmead, part of a sampler.
Light golden color.. smell is very hoppy and bitter. Taste leans toward hoppiness.. there's a decent amount of alcohol in the flavor as well. Slight sweetness in the background keeps this from being too hoppy, but it definitely is hoppy for a barleywine.
Alcohol is noticeable, but not overwhelming. Probably not something meant to be consumed in large quantities, and probably a slow sipper. Hard to describe much else without being redundant, but this was a solid beer from Dragonmead and worth trying.

The beer was an amber gold with a white head. The aroma was actually sweet, with a hint of clove. The taste was sweet with a honey like quality. It reminded me a bit of a sherry. This is followed by a bright citrusy bitterness. It finishes clean and leaves a note of apricot behind. The mouthfeel is big, and is nice and sticky. I definitely thought this was an enjoyable drinkable beer!

On tap at the Dragonmead Brew Pub.
Poured a medium and cloudy golden color with a very larged sized, frothy white head. Aromas of caramel, citrus, floral, and herbal. Tastes of caramel, citrus, the same herbalness, and fruity. Light alcohol in the finish but overall very well hidden.

A - this barleywine arrives a dark mahogany brown with almost no head, except for a slight rim of light tan foam, too dark to notice any carbonation
S - smell is highly malty, to an oaky, resiny degree, and true to style a dark fruit/raisin aroma as well, a rich aroma
T - the taste highly reflects the aroma, with an added empahsis on the woody/roasted elements and a stronger fruitiness to the finish
M&D - surprisingly smooth for such a high ABV, its velvety and well balanced, the fruitiness and smoked maltiness are perfect
an amazing first impression i will continue to be a patron of Dragonmead!

WOW.. One strong beer here. Dark transparent amber with a white head. Caramel, citrus, and banana bread in the nose. Light malt and sweet caramel up front. Banana bread with the hops also in the finish. Alcohol is readily revealed. Decently balanced.
