The Green Lion Inn has a bit of a checkered past. When it opened in 2009 it was one of the best beer places in Malmö, if not Sweden. Very convenient location a couple of hundred meters from Malmö Central Station. Great selection, great atmosphere, great staff. Then, owner Åbro (one of the main macro breweries in Sweden) stepped in and things went south. The good staff left, the selection became stale and the overall experience suffered greatly. Then they closed down. New owners opened up a couple of years later, but with a meagre selection and overpriced food.
Fast forward to 2021. New owners again, who have also started brewing themselves. This calls for a re-visit!
Vibe and atmosphere is still very much English pub, cozy and inviting.
Selection is good, with about 15 taps, a few of which are their own beers. Good variety on the taps as well.
Service is quick and attentive, and they seem very interested in your feedback on their own beers. They had four at my visit, a session IPA, a raspberry saison, a NE DIPA and an imperial stout. I was very pleasantly surprised, especially by the session IPA and saison, very good, solid beers overall.
Didn't try the food this time, but will at some point.
Overall, I hope GLI can continue to get better, as I loved the place way back when. If they keep the quality of the beer up, I will be a frequent visitor.
