Shared 500 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Black colour, moderate to low tan head. Nice aroma of roasted barley and roasted nuts. Roasted barley, coffee and nuts in the dry flavour too, hints of wood. The bitterness could be more distinct. Not a trailblazing beer, but nice enough.

Lir is a dry (extremely dry) irish stout, robust and nordic in nature, but rather true to style. chalky finished black color with a sudsy oatmeal colored head with fine retention. its got a quick earthy nose thats roasted barley without any bitterness. very simple stuff, but unquestionably well made. the flavor leaves a little to be desired for me. the beer is rather bland, neither sweet nor bitter, neither unique in any way, or showing any off flavors at all. its average in taste, just one or two dark grains, and then highly fermented. i like the dryness of it, impressively done, but it could stand a little more meat and potatoes to the flavor, it seems dumbed down a bit really. i like the thick rich feel though and the fast finish. carbonation is where it should be for the style. this is the first less than stellar beer from this brewery that i have had, but its still worth trying for a slightly different take on the actual irish versions.
