On-tap, pours a near black color with a nice tan head. Good lacing as the beer pours. Nose is almost entirely coffee, with some more mild roasted malt flavor as well. Smells like a pretty good porter. Taste is similar to the nose. A lot of roasted malt, and even more coffee. Very tasty, although not particularly bitter for a porter. Feel is standard for a porter, maybe a little thin and not particularly-coating, but fine. Overall, a good beer, one of the best available at the WAP.

A deeply smoky beer with no discernable head. Little to no aromatic hoppiness to this beer, however it was pleasantly bitter and dry. I did not think that this beer was anything special -- mostly average in every respect. As I always say, I would take this over a BMC anyday, but there are better stouts out there. Overall, I would recommend this beer since it is a local craft brew and the quality is evident.

Black with a beige/gray curd on top.
My first impression was "Lemon Pledge." But that's not quite right. There is a type of licorice that my motherinlaw gets in Edmonton Alberta that is hard, intense and barely sweet. One does not "eat" this licorice. One puts a broken shard of it on the tongue and absorbs an assault of bitter, anise and charred lemon peel flavor. I'll bet the bewer put some of that stuff in this beer!
The texture is creamy. The flavors are punishing. Heart-stopping. Simple.
There is a certain, machine-grease appeal to a beer like this. Thrilling power and challenging flavor that grew on me as I drank it.
