Nice sweet porter, vanilla scent, maybe a little too carbonated but finishes well

After trialing this at the Detroit Fall Beer Festival yesterday, the prime reason for our visit to the brewery this afternoon!
Beautiful dark colour, almost black with ruby highlights. Sweet caramelized malts on the nose with a background of toasted caramel. Vanilla more prevalent in the taste, its sweetness leading into a pleasantly crisp finish. This beer is sweet, but not cloying, and a delightful cool weather treat. Our bartender stated it to be around 5% ABV and there was certainly no alcohol burn, so either she was misinformed or the recipe has changed since this beer was first posted in 2010. Either way, definitely a pint I’d recommend!

Reviewed 8-24. Taken from notes:
A - Black with deep brown edges and light thin bubbles that I wouldn't qualify as head
S - Chocolate, coffee and a touch of vanilla. Smells like a solid porter though a bit heavy on the coffee
T - Chewy chocolate, toffee and vanilla in the back. There is a slight hop bitterness which is nice with the vanilla.
M - Chewy and rich, high carb which is disappointing as the rest of the beer is very solid
D - Very easy to drink if you like a full bodied porter. The vanilla is not too heavy nor is the chocolate. Very nice
Overall I was impressed with the beer. If I had more time I would have loved to do a side by side with the original porter.

I had this on tap at the WAB. This is the custom porter with vanilla added...The beer pours a dark brown, with a light tan head...The aroma is light sweet chocolate, actually sweet throughout but no vanilla...The taste is the same, very sweet chocolate, is this is a cold hot chocolate? You get a little vanilla on the finish but its very generic, you can tell they totally just added a vanilla extract on the finish into their regular custom porter...The feel is light and hard to drink because of the sweetness. I was told this is there best beer, way, long way to go here.
