Abbaye de Maredsous Visitors Centre

This is a very nice visit as the location of the Abbey is gorgeous. I've created my rating based simple on the fact that only Maredsous products are available here. Please keep in mind that only the cheese is created on-site.

The offering in the shop is quite nice, the lunch options are delicious especially the croquet monsieur especially since it is smothered in Maredsous cheese. You can also try a flight off all three Maredsous beers which is a nice option. Service is a bit abrupt and the ordering/pickup system is a bit.

Unless you're very interested in the abbey itself don't bother with the tour, while it is quite informative and relatively inexpensive you will only learn about the abbey and it's founding. As mentioned above the only crafting done on-site is the cheese which is different from the Maredsous cheese found int he grocery stores in Belgium.

As an added bonus some Maredsous products can be purchased to bring home including some different glass and stone ware.

Please note you will not find Maredsous on your GPS, you must look for the Abbey itself.

Visited this place during our stay in Belgium on 11JUL09. The Abbey is located in a heavily forested region in Namur province. We arrived around lunch and before touring the abbey itself, we stopped in the cafe to have lunch. The indoor cafe is huge with a big outdoor patio in front as well. The offerings were obviously Maredsous 6,8 and 10, and we went with the 6 on draft. The food selection wasn't big, but the Ardennes ham and Maredsous cheese sandwiches went perfectly the Blonde on tap.

In addition to the bottles, glasses, and cheese on sale, one could buy gift sets with the beer and glass packaged together as well. The atmosphere was great as outside overlooking the abbey was the perfect place to enjoy the beer and cheese. The food itself too was outstanding. Overal, it is well worth a stop if you're in the area and the prices are well below average in my opinion.
