This stout is black in color, with roasty malt and chocolate on the nose. It is very refreshing with a dark bittersweet chocolate dryness. At 3.5% we might have found a session beer at Kuhnhenns!!!

On hand-pump at the brewpub. Served in a pint glass. This batch clocked in at 3.5%, which made it perfect for a mid-trip refreshment.

A - Served with two fingers of creamy tan foam that stick around and coat the class with lace as one works through the serving. The body is a strong black, with a hint of brown at the fringes. Quite dark for only 3.5%.

S - A little understated. Lightly charred bread, nuts, a hint of cocoa and chocolate. Appropriate for style, but doesn't really pop or do anything notable.

T - Taste is stronger, with a little sugary sweetness to balance out the roasted malts, bread, and nut character. Light espresso finish.

M - Smooth texture, low carbonation, and a roasty dry finish. Body is surprisingly hefty for 3.5% and clocks in at medium, without being watery at all.

D - It's a 3.5% beer with no obvious flaws and a pleasant flavor, what more do you want? Not super interesting, but a very good example of the style that you could pound all day long. Perfect for St. Patrick's Day.

(From notes - Blind Tiger event 09-09)

A - Pours a deep rich mostly black color; dense lightly tan head; really nice looking brew.

S - Light roastiness; touch of bittersweet chocolate; basic but good

T - Slight roasted malt flavors; hint of vanilla sneeks in; creamy chocolate that is not as bitter as suggested in the aroma; touch of sweet but not very much

M - Medium MF; a little creamy; and very soft carbonation

D - Great, tasty, and quaffable. Fairly substantial, and this would be the only thing from keeping it as a slower drinker

Great, and actually interesting, example of the style.

Poured a deep black hue with a half finger frothy tan head. There was good retention and lacing.

The smell featured a la yose sweetness coupled with a slight black malt.

The taste was upfront sweet-reminiscent of cafe au lait. A touch of roasted malts, but not to the level of most dry stouts.

The mouthfeel was toward the fuller side of the style.

Overall a tasty stout, just not a dry stout.

Bottle purchased from the brewery. I believe this was the 2006 batch for St. Paddy's Day. Black with attractive white head. Roasty, very drinkable malty. Dry and malting was so good, it was satisfying. I believe one of the best dry stouts I have tried.
