At Kuhnhenn XV.
I first thought it tasted like key lime pie or something in beer form ... like an imperial, better version of Short's. After it warmed up, it just reminded me of Thai food. Tom Yum soup specifically. I don't know how else to describe it. Lemongrass and ginger flavors are pretty prominent, with a slight alcohol warmth/burn that is reminiscent of capsaicin. There's even a mild coconut flavor that I get, too... almost like this is barrel aged, even though I'm pretty sure it isn't. All that this beer is missing is a little chicken and you've got some Thai curry.
Yes, the ginger is strong, but I love ginger... so no problem there for me. I will say I don't notice any hibiscus whatsoever. I really liked this Thai Barleywine, and I hope to see it again... though I can see why it is so polarizing.
