12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, 2017 vintage. Thick looking pour. Pours fairly clear dark ruby red, light copper/brown color with a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin spotty lace cap that lingers. Nice spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big tart/sour cranberry, raspberry, cherry, peach, plum, pear, apricot, red/green apple, currant, red grape/wine, oak, hay, straw, grass, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toasted biscuit, and brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of oaken vanilla, roast, nuts, peppercorn, leathery/musty funk, red wine vinegar, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/acidic/spicy yeast, dark/bready malts, and moderate oak barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of huge tart/sour cranberry, raspberry, cherry, peach, plum, pear, apricot, red/green apple, currant, red grape/wine, oak, hay, straw, grass, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toasted biscuit, and brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of oaken vanilla, roast, nuts, peppercorn, leathery/musty funk, red wine vinegar, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate lactic tartness, Brett/wine tang, and yeast/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart cranberry, raspberry, cherry, peach, plum, pear, apricot, red/green apple, currant, red grape/wine, oak, hay, straw, grass, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toasted biscuit, brown bread/crust, oaken vanilla, roast, nuts, peppercorn, leathery/musty funk, red wine vinegar, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic/spicy yeast, dark/bready malts, and moderate oak barrel flavors; with a fantastic malt/tartness, wine tang, and yeast/oak spiciness balance; with zero cloying/puckering flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering tartness and yeast/oak spiciness. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready, and fairly acidic/tangy/tannic, and slightly slick mouthfeel that is fantastic. Minimal warming alcohol for 10.5%. Overall this is a fantastic imperial Flanders oud bruin! All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic/spicy yeast, dark/bready malts, and moderate oak barrel flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to drink for the big ABV, with the mellowly acidic/tangy/tannic/drying finish; not overly lactic. Amazingly well rounded Brett/Bacteria complexity, with rich malt balance, and nice overall barrel presence. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and amazing style example as expected.
