2009 Winter Solstice. Very very roasty, which did not add much. Very dark brown. Lots of soapy head. Sourness, not as drinkable, more of a sipper. Seemed to have the wild child template, but with more umph. Stouty really, and not what you expect from a bock.

On tap at the brewery.

Haven't had much in the style, but I found it enjoyable, if a bit odd. The smokiness was not overwhelming, but it definitely added a nice char to the taste. Has a bit of tart fruitiness, something very common with Kuhnhenn dark beers. Very slight though.

Almost pitch black, with a nice drinkability. One pint was enough though, but thats because the DIPA was calling my name.

Picked up a growler of this at Bierkraft in Brooklyn.

Pours pitch black and completely opaque with only the slightest of chestnut brown/mahogany edges and a massive foamy 3.5 finger head with good retention, only slowly fading into a lasting cap after several minutes. Sporadic chunks of lacing are left behind.

Slightly smokey malt aroma with hints of ground coffee, chocolate malt, ashtray, toffee, caramel campfire and butane. These aromas are not pleasant like typical rauch/smoked beer but rather like dirty wet cigarettes. Hopefully it tastes better than it smells.

Very carbonated up front with a very strong unpleasant smokiness. I'm a huge fan of rauch and smoke beers but this one is just disgusting. Lots of burnt malt, campfire, butane, year old cigarette ashes and acrid liquid fire. I want to scape the awfulness from my tongue immediately. Underneath this awful flavor there is some slight chocolate malt, toffee and burnt coffee but these flavors are very subtle and are completely overpowered by the rancid smoke flavor. This is one of the most unpleasant beers I've ever had. Avoid at all costs!
