This intense lager beer has a delicate chocolate-like aroma that gives way to a wonderful balance of sweet malt. The finish is of a sweet whiskey barrel character.

poured from a 375mL gold-waxed bottle. pours a murky almost barleywine puddle water brown but just a tad lighter (a pour of port wine perhaps?) with a sandy foam cap. huge malt and oak whiskey barrel on the nose. there’s chocolate and leather as well as a touch of raisin. even more chocolate on the taste with a whiskey and leather finish. full mouthfeel; definitely lower on the carbonation but it’s so good. this is an experience. decadent and while there’s some alcohol presence to it, it doesn’t drink like a 17% beer. stellar!

This one pours a slightly murky dark brown color, with a very small head, and not much lacing.
This smells like an aggressive and boozy malt smack to the face, with layers of boozy caramel, oak, vanilla, toffee, dark chocolate, and bourbon. There’s a lot of boozy heat on the nose.
I think this is a touch more successful than the first batch of the BA unfruited Eisbock. This one still packs a boozy punch, but nowhere near the boozy uppercut that was the first batch of this one. There’s more complex and integrated barrel here, with oaky vanilla and char, with some light milk chocolate Tootsie roll notes that play so well with the fruited versions of this beer. There’s loads of sticky and boozy caramel, toffee, mulled wine, and molasses.
This is thick, warming, and pretty drinkable considering the strength of this thing.
This is burly and just so well done. I still love Kuhnhenn and all their little quirks.
