On tap at spuyten duyvil. Served in wine glass with 1/2" head. Definitely on the dark end of the CDA/black ipa spectrum. Nose is quite pleasant...pungent bitter citrus and piney hops overpower sweet and subtle roast aromas, which are present nonetheless. All good up until this point, however upon tasting it turns out that the beer is way over carbonated. Mouthfeel may only count for 10% on the beeradvocate scale, but it sure can be distracting and taint the overall experience in a hurry. That being said, the flavor is pretty damn good. Hop flavor is consistent with the nose, big piney American hops, which I feel suit the style best. The malts are overpowered by the hops and F'd up by the over-conditioning, but they manage to provide sweetness and some chocolate notes. Drinkabiliity also completely botched by the savage CO2 attack accompanies every sip. Overall not wildly impressed, but I'm drinking alone in an empty bar so why not review a beer with only one rating?

Enjoyed on tap at the brewpub. 1.5X IPA strength, and also with chocolate and a little roast in the aroma. Double take as if its a hoppy imperial stout, so had to order a second half pint. Complex, carbonation is right. Almost opaque Dark brown colour with 3/8" head. Above average creamy mouthfeel.
