Black in color, this Cascadian Black Lager has a lightly hopped malty nose. The hop character is supported by dark malt richness. Dark beer lovers as well as hop fans will enjoy this beer.

On-tap at Kuhnhenn. Served in a taster glass.
A - Tan foam settles to a thick collar and a few specks of lace. Transparent cherry wood brown when held to the light, otherwise dark brown.
S - Roasted malts, caramel, chocolate, and citrus hops. Smells like a Black IPA - wouldn't have guessed lager. Quite nice, in any case.
T - Unfortunately, lager or not, this is plagued by the astringent black malt flavors that I don't like in this 'style' (Cascadian Dark Ale/Lager). Some citrus and caramel show up late, but there's too much char and hop bitterness for my tastes.
M - Zesty carbonation, medium body, with some grain to the texture. A bit flaccid for the ABV.
D - Started off promising, but the excess of char and astringency and the unpleasant mouthfeel made this something I'd be unlikely to order again.
