Notes: The newest member of the DRIPA family, this is the next step up– a Triple Rice IPA. Brewed as a bigger, more intense version of DRIPA, yet still employing the same proprietary cereal mash method, lending to the dry snap at the finish. The aroma is ALL hops; big sticky, citrusy hops. A nice malt sweetness occurs throughout the taste, with cracker-crumb notes complemented by the same huge hop characters in the aroma. This extremely limited beer has only been brewed once, so get it before it’s gone.

Great looking beer. Crystal clear with small amount a soapy lacing through out. Smells of pungent hops and sweet malt. Taste is a nice balance of caramel malt and sticky assertive hop flavor. Alcohol heat/sting. Feel is medium body. Sticky mouthfeel.

Taste: pine, mango, orange. Malty biscuit, slight cherry cough syrup sweetness.

12 oz. bottle poured into fluted snifter.

Pours a clear copper, bright and crisp. Thin slightly off-white head settles very quickly into a thin ring around the glass.

Aroma has a boozy and sweet caramel malty background with a citrus rind and floral brightness sneaking its way by.

Noticeable booze and alcohol warmth but balanced and smoothed out by a caramel sweetness. Citrus rind, citrus zest and light fruitiness in the background.

Moderate carbonation but minimal head production. Heavier side of medium body, very smooth.

Overall a tasty brew, smooth for its ABV but still has noticeable warmth.

2015 bottle. Vibrant orange color, somewhat hazed, with a half finger of off-white head that leaves thin sheets of lacing that quickly subside into a crown.

Big aroma of pineapple, grapefruit, apple juice, alcohol and just straight-up heavy malt sweetness. Tastes similar up front, but the taste is quickly replaced by a nutty, coffee flavor and moderate hop bitterness when cold, with just a touch of malt sweetness lingering in the aftertaste. Reminds me of a chewy coffee candy from the bulk bin of a grocery store at first. As it warms, the coffee and nut characteristics, still there, take a bit more of a back seat to the apple juice, some pine and just a hint of citrus, with the bitterness opening up more, too.

Medium to heavy bodied, with some slight carbonation in the mouthfeel. There's quite a bit of depth to this one, but I'm not sold on the benefits of aging it. Would have preferred to try it fresh.

I got a bottle of Kuhnhenn's TRIPA has a gift. I've been wanting to try this one ever since they first announced it and I'm very interested to see how it turns out since I like DRIPA so much, so lets see how it goes. 2015 Vintage. Poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a teku.

A= The label looks good, it's got a clean and classic look to it and it's a little eye catching. It poured a nice amber orange color that took on more of an orange color when held to the light with just a thin ring of bubbly tan head that eventually faded away and it left a little bit of spotty lacing behind. This is a good looking beer, but I wish it had more head.

S- The aroma starts off with a higher amount of sweetness with the hops being the first to show up and they impart a big citrus, fruit juice and tropical fruit like aromas with some nice pineapple, peach and citrus rind aspects with a little bit of green and floral hops showing up in the background. Up next comes the alcohol which is noticeable and not too boozy and it's followed by the malts which impart a sweet malt aroma with a little bit of pale malts and caramel malts coming through. This beer has a very nice aroma, I really like the hop profile.

T- The taste seems to be similar to the aroma and it starts off with a higher amount of sweetness and it's followed by the hops which imparts all those big juicy and fruity hop aspects that it did in the aroma with the citrus rind and pineapple sticking out the most and the green and floral hops barely show up in the background. Up next comes a noticeable boozy flavor, it's warming, but not too overpowering and it's followed by the malts which impart a big sweet malts with some pale malts and a little big caramel malts with some doughy yeast. On the finish there's a little bit of sweet warming alcohol flavor with a lower amount of high bitterness with those fruity hops in the aftertaste. This is a very nice tasting beer, but I wish it was just a little less boozy.

M- Fairly smooth, on the thicker side of being medium bodied, a little warming and boozy, not too crisp with a lower amount of medium carbonation, The mouthfeel was good, but I wish it had more carbonation. The mouthfeel is good, but I wish it had a little more carbonation.

Overall I thought this was a very nice beer and a very nice example of the style, it turned out just like I was expecting, it's got the same great hop profile that DRIPA has, but this one has slightly more malty flavors and a lot more of a noticeable boozy aspect which is what I've come to expect from most Kuhnhenn beers, I don't like it more than DRIPA, but I like it in it's own way and for what it is. This beer had nice drinkability, one would be my limit, anymore than that and the booze might start to ware on me. What I like the most about this beer is the hop profile, it's very good. What I like the least about this beer is the boozyness, I wish it was hidden just a little better. I would for sure buy this beer again and I would recommend it to anyone who like big, bold, strong hoppy beers. All in all I was happy with this beer, it turned out very nice and I'm glad Kuhnhenn bottled it. It's not a favorite Kuhnhenn beers, but's one of the better example of the style I've had. Great job guys this is one tasty beer, keep it up.

Had on tap at the new new kunhnhenn brewery that just opened up down the street from me a couple weeks ago. Very nice hoppy and citrusy ipa and went down smooth for 11.5 percent. Actually a little too smooth, I finished it pretty quickly on empty stomach and caught a good buzz pretty fast. It's a shame kunhnhenn dosent distribute to stores any longer. Have to go to the brewery to get there beers now. At least the new location is only a mile from my house.

Dark auburn. Pours heavy, high viscosity hop oil. Smell has some piney citrus, hop distilled in a way, caramel. This does that dance of "isn't a triple IPA the same as a really hoppy barleywine?" Main difference here is the body is a bit less cloying. It's pretty creamy and light for the size.

2015 vintage
12oz green foil top bottle poured into a snifter

A- pours a hazy but bright golden orange color with a small foamy white head that reduces to a film that just skims the top, leaving some lacing behind

S- juicy citrus hop aroma with notes of tangerine, mango, grapefruit peel, peach & some grassy notes. Underlying bready malt

T- Opens up with bright and fresh citrus fruit, with notes of tangerine, mango, guava & melon. Slightly malty sweetness kicks in mid-palate that seems to further enhance the tropical fruity notes. Finishes quick, leaving only a linger of mango and orange.

M- medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel and a bone dry quick finish, only a light linger of alcohol

O- given the abv, they did a great job at showcasing the hops and not making it too malty and boozy. The tropical notes are a delight throughout, very good IPA

Big thanks to BMart for this extra! Settles into the glass with a honey-colored body and virtually no head to speak of. Just some scarce white bubbles on top. Body is very clear with just the slightest hint of haze. Aroma is big and hoppy with a balance of pine and citrus, along with hints of sweet bread. Flavor follows the aroma, hops up front, some sweet malt to balance it out. Flavor is crisp and clean, strong, but not overwhelming. Feel is slightly syrupy, but crisp, with medium carbonation and a sticky body. Overall a very solid beer that drinks well for the high abv.

Appearance - The beer looks like liquid gold.

Smell - There is a modest citrus grassy smell present.

Taste - Initially, I detect grass, citrus, pepper and a backbone of cereal grains. The aftertaste is slightly citric and grassy. The profile leans more dry.

Mouthfeel - There is a clinginess to this Triple IPA. I won't go so far as to call it sticky.

Overall - I think I liked DRIPA better.

This pours a clear golden honey color with some white head that quickly dissipates. The appearence looks thin, almost like a wine. The aroma on this beer is outstanding. Lots of citrus, a hint on pine, and some melon. A little bit of malt sweetness is there too on a big whiff. The taste starts nice and malty with hops quickly assaulting the palatte. A wide range of hop flavor is present, citrus, mango, pineapple, and melon. A little bit of a grassy/pine flavor. Bitterness is balanced well with the sweetness, and it finishes super dry. Good brew, but price point is a little off.

Green foil capped 12oz bottle from IAmJacksHopTongue (thanks man!). 2015 vintage, no discernible bottling date. Served in a Toppling Goliath teku.

Pours a bright amber with three quarter finger pale head. Little retention- the residual thin rail around the glass leaves only a modest curtain where the initial head rested.

Smells juicy and bright. Melon, mandarin, peach, berries and a soft, clean sweetness. My nose keeps returning to the glass to get more of this excellent aroma.

The flavor is deeper and danker than the nose foretold. Overripe peach, honeydew, mandarins, rounded dank notes of garlic/ onion (hints without being abrasive), strawberry, oranges, faint honey and a mild bite of alcohol. The tiny tingle of booze is light enough to make this dangerously easy to drink for the double digit abv.

Full feel with a crisp finish and pleasantly soft carbonation. The delicious, lingering aftertaste continues the juicy hop blend of melons, citrus and berries with a pleasant but understated sweetness.

TRIPA is simply outstanding. I guess Kuhnhenn decided they should make a bolder and stickier version of their already stellar DRIPA. This was an awesome surprise to get to try/ enjoy and comes highly recommended.

2013 bottle (not a typo). Still pretty darn good. A little maltier than I remember. Still lots of citrus notes. Poured with plenty of carb still. No where near add boozy as it was. Wouldn't let this one go any longer, if you got one, drink it.

IPAs and IIPAs are usually one of my go-to styles, and was excited to try this... it's a bit hoppy and boozy for my taste (even compared to DFH 120min), but it's far from undrinkable. Wouldn't go out of my way to get it again, and if I happened upon a bottle, it would definitely be shared, don't think I'd be down for an entire bottle to myself again.

Appearance: pours a color halfway between straw an honey. little to no head, just a little white foam. strong clarity and good brightness. some lacing to legs to it.

Smell: strong citrus, booze and hop resin. malty honey-like sweetness that comes off very strong. slightly floral.

Taste: opens with citrus, resin and some piney hops. sweetness comes through quite strong and is a little vanilla like. some biscuit qualities to it.

Mouthfeel: very strong and intense bitterness. strong booziness as well. a little creamy and dry.

Overall: a solid Triple IPA offering. super intense bitterness and strength and surpirsingly only 11-12%. tastes like quite a bit more, which is a good thing for the style.

A fruity loops TIPA! In the front, a explosion of candy and sweet fruity flavors, again, the Toucan Sam would approve. Despite the caramel and sugary sweet malt backbone in the middle, there's a dank bitterness in the back end. A clean drinking brew that extends on the already delicious DRIPA.

Go Easy on me to rating beers : > ) I have had Kuhnhenn's Tripa last year (2013) and it was 'good' and probably what most of the ratings are based on, but this year's batch knocked my socks off. It is a BIG pineapple, sticky, lush tropical fruit bomb this year that 'I think' is wonderful for those seeking BIG Hearty beers like this.

Ok, here I go with the descriptions:

Appearance: yellow/orange and moderately rich pour with a thin head and minimal lacing.
Smell: Fruity and tropical (mango?) with a bit of alcohol astringency.
Taste: BIG wallop of Pineapple up and then quick rich sweetness, then the hops bitterness crept up to tame the sweetness to not make it too cloying. I craved that juicy pineapple rush again, YUM. After the first few sips, for me, it went back to more tropical notes of mango too and a bit of alcohol on the backside that let me know that this is not a beer to take lightly : > )
I am really, really enjoying this beer as a 'special treat' after dinner. Lush and thick and delicious and oh so pineappley at the start. A neat beer to try if you are into a special lush TRIPA.

Very murky orange brew with small to no head. No lacing either. Thin appearance.

Lots of white grape, passion fruit, bready, grainy, solid.

Dry, lots of white grape flavors. Crisp and clean. Carbonation is nearly perfect and way light. Sweetness is light and balanced well with slight bitterness. Slow creeping heat with oaky vanilla flavors.

Not quite the creamy deliciousness I was expecting, but still quite nice and fitting for the style. Another great brew from Kuhnhenn, recommended, but not worth the $9/oz...

Thanks to abanton for sending a couple of Kuhnhenn treats my way. 12 oz. bottle with the typical Commodore 64 label. I have a soft spot for that old beige 'computer'.

Poured into my lovely gold-lettered Kuhnhenn goblet, the beer is a nice light golden orange, although I left a fingernail of sludge in the bottom of the bottle. As with most of the brewery's beers, carbonation has taken a vacation. DNose is nigh unto delicate, mostly light, fresh-cut spring flowers in a vase of sugar water. Not bad.

Triple Rice IPA (TRIPA) brings a booming fruity sweetness to the genre. Mango, pineapple, half the Byerly's fruit section is flash-frozen in raw sugar cane & tossed whole into this beer. Apparently. Rich pine & a modicum of bitterness breaks up the sugar bomb before it hits cloying on the Richter scale. The finish is grainy, & sweet, again. Despite my initial ambivalence, I seem to be consuming said twelve ounces quickly.

Fruity & sweet is the name of the game. A good beer & worthy effort at whacked out madness, but really, this is a pretty tame, sugary IIPA.

Bottled 6/17/2013, best before 9/21/2013.

A: Pours a clear sort of golden color. Big fizzy white head. Head fades out pretty quickly. Moderate retention and almost no lacing at all.

S: Nice juicy hops. A little subdued, probably due to the age. Grapefruit and pine mainly. Touches of tropical fruit.

T: More big hops up front. Grapefruit again, lots of it. Resinous pine. Light cereal grain malt despite 11.25% ABV. Lots of bitter resin floating around in the aftertaste with hints of pine mixing in. A bit of tummy warming alcohol but no real noticeable flavor.

M: Smooth and easy drinking for such a big beer. Quite a wave of drying bitterness. Mouth coating oily aftertaste.

O: Huh, interesting. Such a mild malt flavor in an 11.25% ABV brew is impressive. Drinks super easy for such a big DIPA (or TRIPA I suppose). Very intriguing style. I can't quite decide if I like it or love it. I think a fresher bottle would have a clearer answer. Worth seeking out though, an interesting concept executed well I think.

Thanks to JS45678 for the bottle.

Appearance: Dark gold. Perfectly clear. Almost non-existent head. Leaves a tiny bright-white collar. Minimal carbonation.

Smell: Sweet caramel malt. Pushes caramel, toffee, and almost brown sugar. Sharp bite of alcohol on the back. Hops are slightly spicy with a solid herbal and citrus component. Floral, slight cracker snap. Surprisingly clean. Grapefruit and pine. Little to no bitterness. Some bread crust.

Taste: Very light maltiness. Snappy cracker and a good punch of alcohol. Some pine bitterness. Caramel, toffee, and a ton of caramelized malt sugar. A touch of citrus and floral. Somehow manages a clean malt profile over a dirty and earthy hop profile. warms to booze and toffee almost exclusively.

Mouthfeel: Medium to light body with minimal carbonation. Clean and smooth.

Overall: Maybe three is too many?

Lacking the overall depth and hop presence I expected. Drinks very close to a barleywine with little else going on. Aging a bottle would be interesting.

Appearance - That is an ugly beer. Clear. Gray with a pinkish tint. Strange. Not much of a head.

Smell - Kind of a fruity aroma. Some hops. Some booze. Not much of a malt aroma beyond the fruitiness.

Taste - Hoppier here, but retains the fruitiness. Sweet. Tough to discern the hop flavor. Really strange flavor.

Mouthfeel - Light, but still sweet and boozy. Strange combo.

Overall - Just not digging it. I liked DRIPA, but this is too weird.

12 oz. bottle served in a Firestone Walker mini snifter. Thanks to eorwar for the share.

A: Pours a clear, brownish color with a thin white head forming on the pour. It recedes to a thin ring. The color is definitely slightly odd in that it's so clear, but darkly colored at the same time.

S: Lots of sweet peach with a fruity booze backing. Light white rice graininess as well.

T: White rice sweetness with a upfront alcohol sweetness. Very boozy and not well hidden. Fruity brightness in the middle, most a in the form of a sweet white peach. Finish is grainy and sweet.

M: Medium to light bodied with a medium light carbonation. Boozy and hot overall.

O: This one just didn't quite get there. Grain and rice sweetness mixed with the heavily fruited booze wasn't the best combination. The white peach sweetness was nice, but it was far too hot to be enjoyable.
