Very dark for an IPA. Deep deep brownish-red that's a little cloudy. Full tan head.
The nose is all spice and pine with deeply toasted and slightly roasted malts in there as well. Pretty good, and nice and pungent, but doesn't have the brightness I look for in a world class IPA.
Tastes good, but doesn't taste like an IPA. At all. Piney and bitter, yes, but with such a caramelly full and roasty body it just isn't an IPA. It's one of those hoppy red ales not that dissimilar to Bear Republic's Red Rocket Ale. Again, it's good, but I opened what I thought was an IPA and got something full of caramel and roasted malts.
Enjoyable, nice level of carbonation, but with Statale Nove I generally stick to their lagers which are much more consistent, much more reliable.
