I'm trying this beer at Effing Brew Company in Effingham, IL. It poured a clear amber with very thin ecru head that is not leaving any lace. The scent had butterscotch notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with bourbon base and subtle chocolate highlights. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with subtle carbonation . Overall it's an ok beer.

A: Pours a dark brown near black color. A one finger beige head forms and recedes after a minute. A surprising amount of lace is left behind.
S: A big malty aroma. Toasted, malts baked bread, a touch of nuttiness. An equally big barrel character. With vanilla and wood. Hits all the spots really well, and very balanced.
T: Like the nose, with big malt flavors. Toasted and baked bread, with a bit more sweetness. Vanilla, chocolate, wood barrels. Even a touch of earthy bitterness to help balance out the big malts, barrel, and sweetness. Love it.
M/O: A big full body with good carbonation. Almost high carbonation for being barrel aged. Though becomes really smooth as this breaths. Just the right amount of heat, and this is a great sipper. Very warming and inviting.
Lots of big malts and barrel character here, but somehow still manages to be really well balanced. Hopefully they make this again, and would love this as a winter time warmer. Very much recommended.
