A wonderous elixer! On tap at the Castle on King

A rich prtien-hazed orange color in the glass with a 1 finger off white sticky cap.

Aroma is lush: rich spicey grains over some light honey-like tones and wet grass.

Starts thick with spicey-tangy rye malts.... mid way you get some light hop s and some tangy sweetness...finish is delightful, rich and malty, spicey with a caraway seed-licorice root taste.

This is a flavorful "big" beer and the rye spiciness just sets it off wonderfully....hides alcohol well...drinkable and satisfying. The brewer gets 2 extra points for imagination and originality....rare traits in the Ontartio "me too" craft brewing market.

Tasting at biegaman's place with grub, viggo, lexx, blankboy (RB), and tupalev (RB). I didn't write down who brought what, unfortunately, so thanks everyone!

Been a while since I've had a rye beer, or one of Church Key's offerings. Poured a reddish-orange colour with not much head (sample glass). Aroma was mild spicy dark fruit with a little bit of that rye pepperiness in there. Flavour, again, was very restrained -- would like to see a little more power here. A bit doughy and malty, not enough hop/rye kick.

22oz bottle fresh from Campbellford thanks to Tupalev. Label reads "Catch Her in the Rye" ... clever... wait, I don't get it.
Not mcu head, an attractive shade of toasty, tawny amber. Outline of white trim. Sparse bubbles. Aroma with characteristics of a bock. Lots of darker malts showcased and some suggestion of rye. The rye comes through most in the flavour, accompanied by bready malts, a little roast, and an odd warming sensation (guess that 7% isn't completely out of sight, err taste). Flavours hard to describe, like other Church key products this was different, but not overly appealing. This particular entry wasn't all that bad, just not great compared to anything you might want to drink.

group tasting may 26/07 with biegaman, Viggo, Lexx, crwills, blankboy@RB, tupalev@RB, and me (grub). everybody threw something into the mix and we had a great lineup of beer. tupalev contributed this one, so thanks jeff!

22oz bottle.

pours orangey amber colour with a small dense white head. drops fast and leaves a bit of spotty lace.

aroma is ok. bit of dms. light honey sweetness. bready malt. bit of adjunct?

taste is good. a big slice of caraway rye bread. light toastyness. just a hint of caramel. low bitterness.

mouthfeel is good. medium-low carbonation level. nice light body.

drinkability is good. balanced and enjoyable. this one actually turned out better than i expected from the aroma.

On tap at Volo. Never sure what to expect from Church Key.

Pours a clear orange, thin white head forms, dies very quick, no lace, very spritzy carbonation, not very appealing from the beginning. Smell is sweet, malty, some citrus and spicy rye, floral, kind of grassy, not too bad. Taste is very nasty sweet, cloying, some spicy rye, iron, vegetables in the aftertaste, not very good. Mouthfeel is thin, light bodied with high carbonation, almost champagne effervescent. Like most Church Keys, a total mess. One of the many breweries here I can't believe is still in business. Did get slightly better as it warmed and the insane carbonation died off, but still would not want to drink again.
