On tap at C'Est What? Also had at Volo.
Pours an opaque black, some dark brown highlights, really thick tan head forms, settles down to a thick layer and ring, nice lace spots on the glass. Smell is nice, molasses and roast, some chocolate, caramel, very fruity, some earthiness, vanilla, blackberries, real neat, smells good. Taste is similar, very dry and roasty, berries and fruit, chocolate, caramel, molasses and licorice, some charred would, biscuity, quite nice. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with low carbonation, slightly dry and ashy in the finish. A real nice stout. I never liked Church-Key much but lately they have been releasing some quality beers.

A: Black with a tan head, very little retention or lacing (especially for a stout).
S: Very roasty with hints of smoke & licorice. Awesome aroma.
T: Roasty, coffee, nut, licorice, modest bitterness.
M: Light body, quite dry.
D: Good for a drier stout.

Enjoyed on-tap at C'est What. Black with some coffee. Roast, coffee aroma. Good mouthfeel, even thickish. Lace dots. Carbonation is on the aggressive side, typical for this bar. AN above average decent stout, well-balanced. Not the smokiest, not the roastiest, not the coffee-dominated, just very well-balanced stout.

Its nice to see this beer - a rare Ontario collaboration brew between two Ontario brewers, in this case John Graham of Church-Key and Doug Pengally of Ste. Andre.
Pitch black pour, with some ruby highlights when held up to the sun. A nice light tan head hung around for the duration and produced some good lace. Roasted grain aroma, with coffee grounds prominent, but its not as intense as I would hope. The flavour profile seems like a fairly classic interpretation of an English Stout, with prominent roasted notes, and restrained hopping. At first the flavour seems a little flat - a product of an over-chilled pour, but as the beer warms up nice coffee and chocolate notes become apparent. The coffee adds a pleasant bitterness to the finish. There's also a nice smoky meatiness o the beer that I can appreciate. The body is medium-light with moderate carbonation, which is about par for the style, and helps make this pretty sessionable.
A decent beer, and one that I think could work well on cask if ever they were so inclined.
