Bottle picked up at the brewery this summer. Pours a clear black with ruby highlights and a limited but surprisingly light coloured head. Aroma is oak forward with a hint of caramelized barley malts and rye tones. The barrel is also very prevalent in the taste, which starts and finishes with oak tannins. This beer ends with a more simple bitterness than I expected plus the alcohol warmth of the 7% ABV.
Although I appreciate many of Church Key's efforts, this is not my favourite and probably not one I'll buy again.

Bourbon barrel aged that subtracts rather than adds to taste. Dark coloured body without a head. Medium mouthfeel, with astringency in the finish. Bourbon cheapens the taste. A tad of smoke and roast. Not great a porter though so-so drinkable is best I can say.
