Amber copper color with a two finger fluffy beige head with low retention.
Sweet malty aroma, simple, but with nice caramel notes.
Flavor of caramels, lightly spiced yeast, crusty bread and slightly roasted malts that gives a very subtle coffee hint. Dry and bitter aftertaste.
Light to watery body with good carbonation.
A simple session Amber Ale, even so it could have more body and sure more hops, specially considering it was inspired in American Amber Ales. This tastes more like an English Brown Ale. And it did not get any extra points for being in Gramado…

A- This beer pours a clear slightly dense brown body with a thin bubbly white film and a gentle carbonation trailing up the glass.

S- The soft brown malt aroma has some fresh and dry qualities. It has an odd dog food aroma that turns more into dry dark toffee or molasses as it opens. There is a nice lightly toasted brown malt finish.

T- The brown malt flavor has a good freshness to it with a slightly woody character and a mineral water taste to follow. There is some pale malt flavor that comes through as it opens and a dry finish with a faint green hint to it.

M- The medium-light mouthfeel has a tight scrubbing fizz in the finish.

O- This beer has some nice fresh malt flavors to it but it they are a bit light and thin out as the beer opens.

Rasen Bier has been on the both the "okay" side and the "yum yum" ends of the spectrum. I don't know what to expect, so wish me luck. This bottle was a gift from the kind folks of the Bierkeller in Porto Alegre, RS, so regardless of how this goes, muito obrigado meus amigos! On to the beer:

That color has a shiny brown amber color with reddish orange hues. Little head is created on the pour, and the retention is just okay. THe nose....cooked meat? A little dark bread is found, and I also sense bird seed. I believe that's a first.

On the malty side of things. Bread crust and a handful of esters make a reasonable base, however little that's pleasing to the palate splatches onto the canvas created. There's a subtle "sweat" note, which is odd. The body is light with a snap of crispness, at times feeling watery though.

Rasen Bier Ambar lands on the "okay" side. I won't reject it, but it's not one that's going to make my heart throb when I see it; only the dunkel from Rasen Bier can do that.
