Løkken was originally an old fishing village that became successful with the ship trade to Norway. Warehouses from this ship trade still exist. Løkken also became an important fishing village, and was at times the 3rd largest on the west coast. Around 1950 there were 50 boats that were pulled up on the beach.

500 ml bottle, as Løkken Dark Ale, bought in Denmark. ABV is 5.2%. Very dark brown to ruby colour, nearly black. Big to moderate beige head. Fairly nice aroma with a mild roastiness, notes of caramel, mild coffee and some fruit. The flavour has basically the same elements as the aroma, but with less caramel and a very slight acidity. Hints of chocolate too. Dry aftertaste. As a "strong dark mild", this is not too bad!

Copenhagen 1/1 2021. 33 cl little chubby bottle from Spar, Magrethevej, Hirtshals. Drawing of old fishing boat resting on the beach on the label.

Pours opaque dark brown with a mid-sized off-white head. Settles as thin, patchy layer of foam unable of covering the surface of the beer. No lacing.

Aroma is moderately intense with a sweet malty odor with a light earthy touch. Caramel and toffee. Leather. A bit metallic.

Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, soft, lightly tingling texture.

Flavor is medium intense with a fairly strong sweetness followed by a more moderate sourish bitterness. Aftertaste is sweetish and lingers for a bit. Semi-dry finish.

Quite sweet take on a Mild Ale.
