Had this beer on-tap in a pint glass at the McMenamin's in Mill Creek, WA.
Appearance: nice amber hue with a fair bit of haze and a light effervescence. Head is minimal, though.
Smell: basic caramel malt aroma with a dash of spicy hops. Decent.
Taste: malty with a strong caramel component. Hops are earthy in character and bitterness is good and balanced. Not too bad.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a low carbonation. Not terribly interesting.
Overall: a decent, middle of the road red.

Dark honey colored liquid with a very slight haze. Miniminal white head.
Aroma is slighty malty.
Flavor is average. Slight lingering maltyness but not as sweet or rich as the typical red ale. Some toasted notes.
Light-to-medium mouthfeel. Decent but not as good as other McMenamin's offerings.
(Enjoyed on-tap at McMenamin's Six Arms in Seattle)

Poured a deep red color with a small white head and decent carbonation. Nose is sweet, dry, biscuit and some caramel. Taste is pretty plain here. Biscuit, caramel, sweetnes and dry taste. Mouthfeel is pretty flat, ordinary with a dryness. Drinkability is average as most McMennamins beers are.

Pours a dark brown with some red highlights.
Aroma is dark woody roast, bit nutty and peat flavors like a scottish ale.
Taste is nothing to write home about, or even write here about. It's just bland, thick barley grain, some cereals and barely any hops in here. Some slight ashtray and nuttiness.
Mouthfeel is very thin for the depth and hue that your eyes catch.
Don't even bother with this one. In the words of Stormtrooper#2:
Move along. Move along.

Served from the tap at Thompsons in Salem. Pretty nice looking amber ,darker than the usual, a nice slightly hazy brown with a large off white head. Aroma was subdued but mainlly malty. I found the taste to be pretty nice, caramel malting and some nice bitter hops at the end, nice aftertaste. Pretty much ok on the palte, little on the thin side due to it being served too cold IMO. Overall a not outstanding but drinkable ale, would be nice with food.

Sampled at the brewpub in mid-June, this brew came out a cloudy dark copper under a one finger off white head with decent retention and fairly good lace. The nose is mild sweet malt. The mouth is almost flat and slightly heavy. There's a slight sourness to the test, as a red should have, with some sweet malt. Very little hops here, leading to a subdued finish and a mild to non-existent aftertaste. There are better reds in the world, and better beers at this brewpub.

brewed straight from the Puget Sound?. As much as I am a novice, I have never tasted a beer that was so devoid of distinction or similarities any beer style. If by the term Workinman's Red means you need to be dog tired and poor, then this is your beer.
I felt that the hops or malt aspects were lacking and that they either over carmelized the barley or something else. Guess I have either alot to learn about "good beer" or I nailed it on the head with my review of this beer.

Im sorry to say that despite the heroic name, I could find nothing of merit to speak of in this beer. Okay, its pretty enough to look at. The color is of dark autumn a sort of reddish brown with some haze. And it leaves some decent lace on the glass.
But the aroma is strangely meaty, and I just cant imagine this ale wants to smell that way. The mouthfeel is thin and grainy, and I find the taste to be simply unpleasant. Again, I just cant accept that the beer is intended to taste as it does. It is cloyingly bitter and foul.
My name is Red and I drank a pint of the Workingmans Red after working a twelve hour shift. This ale truly failed to meet my expectations. It was dry like roadkill beef jerky.

I think Hillsdale's new brewer is really on the spot. And I think this was a good beer. But let me explain...
The beer itself is quite attractive. Has the nice amber color, but not much in the head department. The smell is somewhat malty, and somewhat hoppy, but around other aromas, its hard to pick out any specifics. Life isn't a vacuum, so brew big.
The taste is nice; full ripe malt, complimentary bitterness. Sweet and somewhat toasted malts. Nice flavors. But there's a bit too much malt sweetness, like its unfinished. Maybe I ought to have checked in later. Still a decent beer, especially after today.
