A new offering by the guys in the Concordia Brewery (Kennedy School) - I found this on-tap last night in the theater concession area.
A: Although it was a little dark in the theater, I checked it out before entering...a rich deep amber with a slight ivory-colored head. Moderate carbonation. The ridged plastic pint glasses McMenamin's serves their beer in a tthe theater make this a little difficult to judge.
S: Initially a sweet maltiness which dissipated within a few minutes. I wished it had lingered...
T: Excellent malt character & good use of Belgian yeasts. I called the brewer today and he told me the yeasts are the same used by Chimay or Westmalle for their dubbels...I did notice a hint of hop bitterness which I wasn't sure was to the style.
M: A bit much on the carbonation initially, clingy on the sides of tongue. Lingering malt sweetness.
D: A tasty beer but a sipper. I let it linger on the table (mostly because I was so into the movie...) and flavor improved as it warmed. I could have had another pint, but at 8% abv, it would but hard to have much more at one sitting.
A really nice beer; good to see the McMenamins brewers showing creativity and making a solid new brew. A bit unusual at the start of June to craft a strong dubbel, but I can't complain. I recommend a try for anyone visiting Kennedy School.
