I asked what the scoop was on this brew and the bartender informed me, with an unsure sounding voice, "the brewers were just having some fun and tried something new/experimenting." The bartender said that in their tenure at McMenamins they have never heard the name of this brew before...I tried to get definite/concrete answers but was unsuccessful
A: clouded reddish brown with lighter golden highlights amongst the bar lighting. Three blobs of lace and fizzy head outlined the rim of the glass
S: sweet on the nose with dry grains and malts. Soft and mild fresh hops in the mix with subtle fruits. I always struggle in bars to get a good whiff. I always debate about reviewing beers at the bar but as luck would have it my laptop was in my messenger bag
T: roasted malts, earthy rye characteristics, caramel sweetness, and hops add just the right compliment to the earthy flavors. Very fine and delicate fruits push through and get me thinking raspberries. This brew is on the sweeter side of things and yet balanced
M: another plus is the balance between fizziness and mild body. Leans towards creamy in feel and goes down rather well
D: I would have to say this is a solid brew from McMenamins. My experience with their beers has been mediocre at best and this is one of the better ones, they continue to gain respect...slowly but Shirley, and stop calling me Shirley!
