Appearance: Arrives at the bar witha hazy amber color and a modest head that provides the occasional dot of lace (oh, and the slice of lemon)
Smell: Yeasty banana esters
Taste: Opens with banana bread that is quickly joined by a subtle, but distinct, sour edge that I associate with the rye; after the swallow, the rye flavors become more distinct but never overwhelm the underlying yeasty banana flavor
Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with moderate carbonation
Drinkability: Refreshingly different twist on a hefe; understated but enjoyable

On tap at the brewpub on 07.08.2007.
Served with a wedge of lemon; okay, it's not a knock on the beer itself. Pours a deep amber beneath a creamy, white head that that holds as a firm sheet leaving patches of condensed lacing. Crisp banana aromas with tropical fruit, and a distinct peppered-rye spice. The fruity-esters are full, clean, and kept in check: banana, melon, pear. The 25% malted rye is certainly detected, giving a stiff breaded character, while adding a clean spiciness. Light bodied; mellow and crisp on the palate. A solid change of pace to the typical Hefe Weizen that can be a little too tart or drowned out by its yeast. One I'd definitely have again for the summer season.
