(from the 13th anniversary party on april 11, 2009)
served in wine glass/snifter
reddish brown, slight haze. creamy off-white head soon recedes to wisps and ring. splotches of lace, but rings tend to slide back down.
cider and malt vinegar aromas, hint of cherries. trace of caramel, trace of hay. gentle funk. more vinegar towards end.
taste: lightly fruity vinegar, with hint of woody character, and faint funk. light to moderate acidity. very mild bitterness, touch of leather and hay into the finish. nice, with some complexity, but a bit just a tad bit subdued, almost watered down, though not exactly.
ever so slightly watery in the feel too, but the underlying smoothness, along with the surface acidity and tannic astringency, still help give it character. gentle carbonation also helps with flavor lift.
