On-tap 4/5/2014 at Watch City Brewpub, in Waltham, MA served in a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep dark brown color, with a short off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains citrus, floral hops, roasted malts and some chocolate.

T: The taste starts out with a decently strong citrus flavor but it’s more tart than sweet. Then a hearty roasted malt character comes in. The hops presence is there but it’s subdued and there’s some dark chocolate flavor in the background. Unfortunately there’s not much balance which seriously detracts from the beer’s quality. The after-taste is bitter.

M: Crisp but not very smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is dry and sticky.

O: Not very tasty, goes down ok, slightly filling, decent kick, good representation of style, there are definitely much better choices within the style.

Consumed 5/8
Served in a pint glass

A: This beer pours a deep brown with mahogany hues. A 1 finger of off white head sits on top and recedes leaving wispy lacing with spotted sheets of lacing.

S: Nose is big roastiness with some citrus and fruity hop notes.

T: Taste starts with the big roasted malts coming out in the forefront. Nicely done, not overpowering but very prominent. Citrus hops then begin to pour in giving a nice hop bite. Finish has a bit of fruity hops with some caramel malts.

M: Medium body, medium carbonation, nice crisp feel, with dry finish.

O: Goes down easily, pretty tasty, minor kick, ok representation of style. I really enjoyed the different flavors, but the finish of the beer seemed somewhat oddly balanced. I've had better of the style, but it's a decent beer.
