22oz. Bottle served in a pub glass 48ºf
It pours a dark cola with a nice effervescence that creates a loose tan head that has some staying power.
Aroma is yeast and roast coffee with a hint of muscovado sugar. I didn’t pick out any hops
Taste is bitter black malt , yeasty with a thin maltiness ,some chocolate and coffee ,very roasty (for a porter) dry with a light body .

A: Poured this gently into my pint glass, and the head almost spilled out of the glass! Very dark black body with an amazingly thick mocha-colored head -- almost makes me think of a root beer float. The head sticks around and lends enormous character to the beer -- the only reason I don't give this a perfect score for presentation is because the head was so effervescent that it was almost impossible to pour the beer into the glass. Fantastic.

S: Sweet malt, some chocolate, strong notes of raisins. Pretty standard for a porter, but with a dry roasty quality that makes it stand out in my book.

T: Roasty, sweet, strong malty presence. A bit fruity in the finish, but otherwise makes me think more of a stout than a porter -- very good, in my book.

M: Thick, luxurious. Carbonation fairly low, but high enough to give a nice foaminess to the texture. Highly enjoyable.

D: This is a perfect session beer. If I'm ever in Waltham, MA, I'll be stopping by for a few pints of this porter for myself -- and I'm usually not a fan of porters. When they're this well-done, I can make an exception.

We're having a porter-off, featuring Rogue Mocha Porter, Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald, Sierra Nevada Porter, Tyranena Chief BlackHawk, Berkshire Coffeehouse Porter, and Watch City Welcome Back Porter.

The Welcome Back Porter smells sweet and alcoholic, almost like rum. Doesn't burn the nose though, like the Berkshire. Fairly thin body, tastes initially of rum again, and the expected burnt coffee flavor. Less porter flavor than the rest, except the Berkshire. Pretty smooth, but does leave a nice, faint, roasty, bitter taste in the back of your throat. The rum characteristics remind me of Tyranena's Rocky's Revenge Bourbon Barrel Brown.

Pours a deep brown/black with red highlights topped with a two finger dark tan head, leaves rings of lacing.
Roasted malt, earthy, chocolate aroma.
Dark roasty taste, chocolate, burnt toast, butter, earthy/dirty hops.
Light-medium feel, too thin for a porter.

Sampled on cask at the brewpub. Dry hopped with Hersbrucker hops. 4.5% ABV.

I liked this dry-hopped, cask version of the porter much better than the version on tap -- it was more hoppy and flavorful. This porter poured an opaque black color with brown foam that settled but clung to the glass somewhat. The smell was roasty and malty with a nice hop aroma and a touch of licorice. The taste was pleasantly hoppy (spicy hops) with a bit of malt sweetness and fruitiness as well as a touch of licorice. The finish was nice and flavorful. The mouthfeel was smooth and relatively clean with medium body and low carbonation. The aftertaste lingered only briefly. This was a very enjoyable cask porter.

I smell the yeast rising fresh and alive from the glass even as it's set down. The beer is looks like bitter chocolate with a finger's worth of milk chocolate head.

The body is surprisingly light, tasting of yeast, roast barley, mildly sweet malt. There's only a hint of hops in a slowly rising sourness like I've tasted in Guinness sometimes.

Remarkably quenching.

Picked this up ant the brewery. Limited 22 0z. bomber dated 2-12-03 in marker on the bottle label. The cap popped off with a suspicious force hinting at possible trouble. Pours with a huge head with a surprisingly malty caramel aroma with a hint of chocolate considering the opening. The first taste brings out a bold bitterness and a powerful flush of caramalt and a lingering floral hop flavor. The finish rounds nicely with tones of toffee. The body is quite smoother than I expected, with a decent heaviness to it. Very complex and tasty. Well-hopped hitting the senses hard.

From a growler filled at the brewpub: Dark brown with a slight ruby tinge to it. Small tan head, medium lacing. Aroma is roasty, smokey, some dark fruit, light caramel. Flavor is chocolate, roasted coffee, some hints of dark fruit, and a little hoppiness at the end. Very full mouthfeel.
