Small beer shop with assorted glassware and homebrewing equipment in the display window in the front.
The right wall is covered with shelves that hold the rather blarge beer selection, I'd estimate somewhere between 200 and 300 different beers, many of them Belgian or English beers. A few American beers can usually be found as well. I've seen brews from Anchor, Flying Dog, Great Divide, and Left Hand. Also a decent selection of some of the local Italian craft beers, such as White Dog, BIA, and Vecchia Orsa.
There's a small fridge in the back of the store which holds one or two of many of the beers available, keeping them cold for those who sit and drink at one of the two round wooden tables in the middle of the store. It's a wonderful atmosphere, friendly customers for the most part, and the store's owner, Marco, can be found hanging out enjoying a beer with his customers from time to time.
The only problem I find with the Tana is the pricing. Most good beers are expensive in Italy anyway, and the prices here tend to be little higher than they are in other places in Bologna. There are, however, only one or two other places in the city to finds beers of the caliber found at the Tana.
The number 36 bus will drop you off right around the corner from the Tana. Grab a beer from the fridge and hang out for a while or take a few to-go.
