Nut Brown Ale

Appearance: It has a great look to it at first. Good brown body with an almost tan head but that disappears quickly to form only ring head with some very thin lace.

Smell: I found the smell to be sour with a roasty wood smell.

Taste: It has a deep dry wood like taste. A little herbal hoppiness.It has a sour candy like sour/sweet aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Slick with a little bite.

Overall: It might be me but I really did not care for this beer very much. It might just be above average for this style to me.

Appearance & Aroma: The deep brown color was slightly hazy and had a tan creamy head with some soapy looking bubbles in it. There was noticeably nutty and caramel malty aroma to it, along with a hint of floral hops.

Taste & Feel: It had a smooth, slightly creamy mouthfeel from the head on it, along with a fairly light body. There was a sweet caramel, almost toffee like flavor up front, followed by a caramel nuttiness in the middle. Along with the nuttiness came a bit of a biscuity and roasty flavor as well. The finish was somewhat dry with a slight bit of bitter hoppiness coming through.

Food Pairing: This could easily go nicely with BBQ, as the sweetness and nuttiness would go perfectly with it. I also think it would go very nicely with a burger, steak, or other beef dish.

Overall Impression: This was truly a “nut” brown ale, as it had a pretty pronounced nutty aroma and flavor to it. I thought it also had a good, complex malty flavor with caramel, toffee, biscuity, and roasty flavors in it. These flavors came together in a smooth, very drinkable beer that I would love to have when I make it back to Columbia for a football game this fall.

A - Poured a cloudy/murky, brown color with a bubbly, frothy, off-white head of foam. The two finger head receded to leave some patchy lace.

S - It smelled very nutty with notes of caramel, toffee and rich malt. There was a slight floral aroma, too.

T - Good nutty flavor with sweet caramel and toffee flavors. A biscuity malt taste with just a touch of bitter hops.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A light bodied brown ale with a dry finish.

D - This is a pretty solid brown ale. Very easy drinking. It didn't take me long to drink it.

Pours a cloudy, brown color. 1/2 inch head of a pale tan color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of roasted malt, sweet malt, and slight hop. Fits the style of an American Brown Ale. Mouth feel is smooth and thick with a low carbonation level. Tastes of roasted malt, sweet malt, slight coffee, slight hops, and some toffee sweetness. Overall, a good blend, flavor, and body - on the verge of being too sweet but still just right.
