First one to get a pour from the cask at 4 pm sharp today at the Wetlands. Pours a murky orange color with a one finger white head that recedes quickly. Just a bit of sediment. Nose of sweet papaya at first and then a blast of basil takes over. Low hop aroma and flavor, but seems to give it a nice grassiness, with the sweet malts far in the background. Flavor has lots of sweet papaya and even more basil freshness on the palate. Guy at the brewery said to let it warm up, and I agree. As it warmed the beer sweetened up and the flavors melded well. Overall this was a unique treatment, but seemed to bring it far away from an IPA. Fun beer.
