Definitely an IPA, bit with plenty of roasty goodness. This isn't one of those black ipa's that's only black in color; it actually tastes like the best of stout and ipa all wrapped into one beer. So drinkable. Surprisingly flavorful. Excellent beer!

Pours a black with some red showing around the edges with a big fluffy coco colored head that falls slow and laces nicely.
Aroma is nice sweet malts with good chocolate notes on light caramel light roasted coffee like hints. Hop aroma is light pine, hints of floral pleasant and inviting with out being over powering hints of spicy rye but not much in the nose.
Taste is smooth lightly caulk y but not in bad way, almost like its half nitro but its not. Good roasted flavor come out then smooth chocolate appears then it seems to lighten and bitter coffee notes appear. Finish is bitter coffee, spicy rye and lightly bitter hops mingling with the rye.
Mouthfeel is medium with smooth carbonation.
Overall an enjoyable Black IPA with some added rye for a bitter spicy kick.
