I had this as part of the tasting paddle at the cellar/brewery door.
L: Dark, more brown than black. Quickly diminishing head.
S: Chocolate/dark malt dominates. For me, no detectable mussels.
T: Again, chocolate/dark/caramel malt dominates. Roasty, acrid flavours are subtle. Again, no detectable mussel flavour.
F: Quite light.
O: Too much chocolate for a good stout for me, but a very well made beer. It's very drinkable, but as usual for an Aussie stout, I think there's too much chocolate/ dark caramel malt. I can't detect any mussels, maybe not worth putting them in?

Bellarine Breweries flagship beer - tasty, well balanced and interesting.
tastes of roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate and a touch of citrus that combines well with the salty/savoury flavours of the mussels. An excellent beer and a style you don't see much in Australia (or anywhere - oysters are more commonly used).
Brewed with Australian Blue Mussels caught locally in Port Phillip bay, this is a beer well worth a try.

This pours black. Some ruby highlights. Beige head. Retention not great.
Dark chocolate and coffee notes on the nose. Mostly choc.
Similar on the palate. Chocolate up front but some nice coffee bitterness at the back.
It is a bit too thin for my liking.

Nose shows a fair bit of cocoa and plenty of roasted coffee. Pretty hard to find any evidence of the mussels.
Coffee transfers through as a flavour exceptionally well, mixing with some dark chocolate. Once again, it's hard to find what effect the mussels have.
Carbonation is a bit too high in my opinion.

This is a deep, dark, rich stout with lots of roast. Strong bitter coffee and bitter chocolate all play a role. I get a hint of salt which seems to be what the mussels are bringing to the beer. This is good.
Medium body with moderately high carbonation. Not bad.
