This was an interesting concept. The brewers information says the Jackhammer Ale is loosely based on the German Maibock style beer. Since ales are top fermenting and bocks are bottom fermenting, how do you get this. Is it an ale or a lager?
The beer I was served had most of the characteristics of a typical American Pale Ale with none of the characteristics of any of the bock beers. This is based mostly on the distinct hops bitterness overpowering the malt flavors.
The color was somewhat of a golden amber with a not cloudy but not entirely clear appearance. The pour had a slight head and produced hardly any lacing.
There was very little carbonation and the taste was somewhat weak and watery.
This one may need a little more work to become a good Pale Ale.
