Poured from the tap into a 20 oz mug at Taco Mac in Douglasville, GA. The appearance is a slightly cloudy light brown colored beer with a medium sized off-white head. The aroma has a very noticeable whiskey barrel scent. The taste is heavy with oak and its high alcohol content (9.2%). A very good beer.

471 has always been a super heavy, oily and really barely wine like double IPA. This oddly enough lends it well to taking on some barrel flavors where as a more citrus and hoppy one might not do so well.
471 barrel aged with citra would be an utter mess for 99% of IPA's. That said this beer is heavily barrel forward, to extremes that most stouts don't even take on. I feel like I'm drinking barrel juice with hops and a lot of caramel malts.
I happen to like that but I'm sure a lot of people would like less barrel. The other issue is the mouth feel is nearly syrup. I don't hate it but it's not great if you think "IPA".
All and all good beer priced way too high. I won't be buying again.

I'm always a fan of what Breckinridge does with its 471 series. The 2017 version of this one is as fantastic as it's ever been. The whiskey barrels add enough spice and booze to make this really enjoyable.
