Breckenridge Brewery and Vail Resorts have created a special beer to be featured on draft at resorts in Colorado and the midwest. Bumps & Jumps Session IPA is packed with flavor, hop aroma, and body, while still falling into the session category. Session IPAs are typically below 5% ABV (alcohol by volume), and Bumps & Jumps is an easy-drinking, refreshing India Pale Ale registering 4.5% ABV. “The ultimate goal for Breckenridge Brewery and Vail Resorts was to create a beer for the active and outdoorsy – a beer that could be enjoyed alongside meals or on its own throughout every season,” said Todd Usry, president and brewmaster of Breckenridge Brewery. “Bumps & Jumps Session IPA is just that.” Classic IPA hops lend citrusy aromas and tropical flavors. The beer is crisp and refreshing with hints of tangerine and pineapple. It is intended to satisfy when taking a break from winter’s cold and satiate after a day in the summer sun. “It’s a challenge to brew a great session IPA,” explained Usry. “You want strong hop character with well-balanced body, and to do so while keeping the alcohol level low can prove difficult. Our brewers rose to the occasion, though. Bumps & Jumps is a flavorful beer that you can have one or two of and still get back out there for more fun.”

L:. Pours an orange color with a small white head and some lacing on the glass.
S:. Lots of citrus upfront, with bit of pine u underneath, smells fairly hoppy. Some woodiness.
T:. Some orange citrus, balanced out by a strong pine bitterness, really not too much going on beyond that. Fairly average IPA.
F:. Medium body, carbonation is solid.
O:. This is a very average and typical IPA.

not retired, still flowing on the mountain at breckenridge, a really lackluster session ipa they apparently brewed with vail resorts. its brassy colored and clear from the tap with a short lived white head and an aroma of minerals bordering on metallic, some generic citrus character, and a sweetness to the malt the makes this seem a little heavier than it probably should for a session beer. i get the appeal of a low alcohol beer at elevation and while working hard physically on the mountain, it makes good sense to not have some monster ipa on tap, but they could have given us a little better effort than this i reckon. it tastes stale, even oxidized which is odd, and the hops seem really safe, like general hoppiness rather than any real varietal specific character or anything to make it unique at all. the maltiness weighs it down a bit, and this just seems sort of tired, like an afterthought. its hard to imagine any brewer being passionate about making this, and hard to imagine any beer person being stoked about drinking it, which is not at all how breckenridge brewery used to be. ill stop short of calling this lousy ipa the result of the bud acquisition, but i will say that in the glory days of breck those responsible for the beer choices would have laughed at this...
