From the growler in a snifter via DEPS in Northern KY. This nice saison
style ale pours a nice red tinged clear amber with a nice head of white foam that
settles to a thick ring, thin pool, and showcases some subtle light lacing.
Nose of grapes, oak, subtle vanilla, and a biscuit laden yeast note with light herbal
overtones and honey sweet malts. Flavors exceed the nose with a presentation that
is astounding for being so far in the hybrid vein. Must laden grapes flourish with touches
of peach and herbal elements of subtle hops with yeasty breaded flavors touched with a
mellow oaken note with light hints of vanilla and tones of cracker. Very nice mouth feel;
medium body, light carbonation that is lightly crisp with hints of apple, and a lightly dry
finish.
An imperial saison worthy of the brewers profile. Excellent and refreshing with a touch
of boozy burn.
Of note, 9/27/18 the ale is a Brewery Lane series brewed with gewurztraminer
grapes and aged in oak. Just popped the top and reviewed the notes and
adjusted the rating by a point on the look. Excellent saison....period.
Worthy!
Cheers

nice to dive back into some breckenridge stuff after not really seeing anything new from them in a long time, or maybe overlooking it in the wake of the bud deal, but these brewery lane series beers i have had have been very good. this is a really strong saison, aged in oak and brewed with gewurztraminer grape juice. its interesting for sure, intense for the style, but an enjoyable beer no doubt. its deep in color, not amber but a really rich looking brassy shade, good head and bubbles as long as its in my glass. the aroma is sweet, i smell the winey grapes right away, a honey and a candy sugar note, and the vanilla from the wood, soft and mild, very fresh, but also with a certain level of maturity, and very belgian on the yeast, less funky or farmy, more fruity and estery. the same is true in the flavor, a little tannic tang is there, but this is way belgian, green pear and clove and honey, apple and dried apricot too, its a nice complexion though, and all the grain weight and sneaking alcohol support it well. the grapes contribute a fortified white wine note, some pineapple, and even a kiwi fruit sort of tropical vibe. its very good, but the sweetness gets to me after a couple of pulls, and it warms up a little harsh and strong. the carbonation is awesome though, it finishes like champagne! i think its awesome these guys are doing some more involved and adventurous stuff, i will look forward to seeing what else comes out of this already impressive brewery lane series...
