In a stronger rendition of our renowned recipe, the Imperial Vanilla Porter is the latest creation coming from the beloved barrel room on Brewery Lane. Powerfully robust flavors and a strong alcohol content define its distinguished imperial nature. Relaxing in rum barrels for 55 days, the beer soaks in both the subtle sweetness of rum and the savory vanilla flavors from fresh bundles of Madagascar vanilla beans. Roasty aromas make way to a smooth, rounded decadence that gives you pure luxury in a bottle.

poured from a 1pt. 9.4 fl. oz. caged and corked brown bottle

Breckenridge Imperial Vanilla Porter has a very dark brown body – almost black. A small ½-finger head was formed that quickly shrunk to just a small collar of foam. The pleasant aroma is of vanilla, rum, caramel, and chocolate. The flavor matches the aroma and is well balanced. The Ale has a high-medium to full body with light carbonation and rum like alcohol warming at the finish.

This Ale is a flavorful Imperial Porter that hides its 10.9 abv well.

12 oz single bottle, best by 12/08/20, into Batch 19 pint glass.

Pours a brown color with ruby streaking through the stream, which forms a darker brown but still a little penetrable, with a creamy grey head of 1/2 finger.

Aroma is equal parts rum and vanilla, with some cocoa nibs and dark chocolate malt trailing right behind it. It has a spiced character to it. It does smell a bit thin if that makes sense, but I'll reserve judgement.

Flavor oddly brings the burn of the booze and the burn of the rum barrel first; you actually TASTE the burn. Then shortly after that comes some pleasant cocoa and vanilla, not unlike Leinie's Snowdrift; with that spiced coffee character I smelled earlier now coming through in the taste, with a little bit of sweet perfumey rum on the back end.

Feel is a bit on the thin side but to be expected for a porter. It's not outrageously thin, just noticeably so. Some boozy burn but not at say, a BCBS level, and some tingling spice character from the rum.

Overall, an okay to decent barrel aged porter. I can't help thinking that it tastes faded in some way, but there's still two months left on the shelf life according to the brewer. Would it be something I'd return to? Eh, probably not, but you never know.

Price paid : $3.69 / bottle (not bad)
Would buy again : maybe

Rich body in appearance.
Vanilla/ cream side-like in aroma.
Flavor is much the same; with a boozy bite. Rum barrel is there, but not too flavorful. Vanilla is subtle.
Well-carbonated.
It’s a decent beer.

A - Very dark brown color, borderline black. Nice thick toffee colored creamy lacing that stays on top and clings to the glass.

S - The aroma is straight forward with vanilla, chocolate malt , and rum. Nothing more, nothing less with the vanilla being very forward on the nose. There is a slight bit of oak but very delicate.

T- Nice balance across the sip...chocolate malt base with vanilla, oak, and rum over the top with light woody oak. Overall, the vanilla is the most dominant with some nice oak and rum falling in behind it.

M - Nice and silky thick with a tad bit of thinness around the edges. There's a slight bit of warming on the first few sips, but overall, no detraction at all from the experience.

O - The is nicely done and I commend Breckenridge on this beer. If you find a bottle or two, grab 'em.

L: Had this beer on-tap at Growlers to Go - Short Pump, poured into a taster. Had a dark, mahogany brown color and a thick, opaque consistency. There was a half inch of creamy, tan-colored, fairly long-lasting head. Excellent lacing.

S: A very good aroma of rum, vanilla, chocolate, malt, and wood.

T: Tasted of a fair amount of milk chocolate (a surprisingly subtle presence), a good shot of rum (and its accompanying barrel), a lot of vanilla (more than you would expect), and some caramel as well (subtly sweet). A boozy, yet enjoyable flavor. The rum dominates things, but the other ingredients do help out. Pretty tasty.

F: A fair amount of carbonation with a smooth and warm finish. Medium-bodied.

O: A solidly done stout. Worth a look.

This brew is quite a shock, when first sniffed by your nostrils, or passed through your lips. You might as well have taken a swig of rum. Once your senses recover, you will indeed feel like you are sipping an after dinner cordial. It is surly boozy as the rum overruns the vanilla. I like Breckinridge Vanilla Porter, it is my mild, summer, thirst quenching beer. It does not prepare me for the assault on the senses, and the havoc this tonic thinly disguised as a beer rages upon taste and smell. Amazed, yes. I need to try another tomorrow, and check my raging brain against rational normalcy, to fully evaluate this beer. My initial impression.. I like it a lot!

Breckenridge Imperial Vanilla Porter Aged In Rum Barrels, 10.9% ABV. Pours dark brown, with a ring of beige head. Nose is rum, chocolate, and vanilla, taste follows with slight bitter close. Decent mouthfeel, overall excellent.

Best enjoyed by 3/7/20, but something tells me that this one will age just fine past that date. 12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Pours almost black with a creamy khaki head that falls leaving great thick retention and sticky lacing. The aromas are rum forward. The rum-barrels shine. Lots of malts. Some vanilla, cocoa and coconut. The flavors are pretty solid. The rum-barrels really come through once again. More hints of vanilla and coconut. Some chocolate coming through. Subtle hints of of oak/wood. Nice malt backbone. Mild warmth in the finish, but the alcohol is ultimately well hidden considering the ABV. Mouthfeel is full-bodied with moderate carbonation. It's very fluffy, soft, smooth, slightly creamy and velvety. This one is basically the epitome of being dangerously drinkable.

This is a nice brew. The rum-barrels shine without completely dominating. The flavors are bold but balanced. It's enjoyable stuff. Well done. I like it.
