Very watered down taste for something that is supposed to be barrel aged and an imperial stout. Very disappointing

12oz bottle. Poured out an opaque, jet-black color with a small, khaki-colored head of foam. It left sudsy trails of lace on the glass. It smelled of whiskey, roasted malt, chocolate and molasses. Sweet chocolate and boozy, whiskey taste with oak and vanilla.

Draft in tulip. Pours a nice dark brown with a thin light tan head. Good lacing. Initial impression is roasted malt and dark chocolate, nothing too special. Mouthfeel is quite thin for an Imperial Stout. Finish is a fade to roasted malts and a lingering bitterness. Overall, I've had better.

There is plenty to knock on this, but in the end I kinda' enjoyed it. The aroma, as with the taste, is subtle - some soft darker ale and whiskey. This is not an overpowering experience. The pour has a off-white head that is open (not dense) but it lasts a good long time. Very clear and the color is closer to a brown ale with red and brown highlights showing in the darkness.
The taste is not a strong roast base, but closer to a non-descript ale with strong ale qualities with some very light catch of darker malts. But the thing I like is the whiskey flavor. Again, kinda subtle but tasty and not overpowering or boozy. The oats don't contribute much to the flavor but offer a pleasing mouthfeel in an otherwise thin body.
The more I let this warm and open up the more I enjoyed it. It does not compete with the best, by any standard, but it has it's own pleasures. A good one for introducing someone to the style if not experienced with the strong flavor more typical. Or a good background drink if caught in conversation or other interest.

This is horrible, no malts, no roasted flavor, no barrel, no chocolate, no coffee, absolutely no flavor with a thin feel and metal after taste. I hope the bourbon itself is better. This is a terrible example of something that's supposed to be robust. Idk I feel like I sound harsh in afterthought but I've had way too many better things to have a place for this one.
I tried it again as I often think I'm being ridiculous. Nope not here. Love the taste of metal from a bottle into a glass. Love it.
