Hand-pump at Sheffield's. Served in a tulip.
A - Standard hand-pump appearance - gorgeous in any case. Big creamy white foam settles to a thick persistent cap, leaving plenty of sticking lacing behind. Lightly hazed bronze body.
S - Smell is somewhat muted, although that's again somewhat typical for the serving type. Malt-forward IPA with some orange and lightly earthy hop aromas over a sugary malt backbone. Dried apricots creep in when the beer warms up a bit.
T - The beer tastes almost exactly like it smells right down to the late-arriving dried apricots, except for an intense jalapeño burn in the finish that obliterates everything else present and lingers indefinitely. Unfortunately there isn't much, if any, pepper flavor present.
M - Smooth, creamy medium body, pleasant cask texture, low carbonation, and intense jalapeño burn. If masochistic and into hot food (and drink) then this might be pleasant, but I think 95% of people out there are going to find this excessive.
D - I managed to finish my snifter, but this is definitely not the easiest beer to drink. Perhaps chipotle would have worked better, as at least there would have been some smoke and peppery flavors added. Pretty much a boring IPA with punishing heat added to it.
