75th Street Brewery
Missouri, United States

Style: English India Pale Ale (IPA)

Alcohol by volume (ABV): not listed

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
A medium-bodied ale that has been hopped more to the extreme. This beer has a copper hue and a noticeable floral aroma. Our I.P.A. is brewed in the tradition of 18th century English-style pale ales. Traditionally, these ales were brewed with extra hops, (a natural preservative) to allow the beer to endure its long journey from England to India, around the Cape of Good Hope.

A - Poured out a clear, copper/burgundy hue with a thick, foamy, pillowy, off-white head. It left behind sticky patches of lace.

S - It smelled of pine, citrus and floral notes with a burnt toast malt aroma.

T - It tasted of spicy, piney hops. It had a sweet caramel maltiness with a bready quality. There is some citrus flavor, too.

M - Crisp and very sharp with a dry finish. A medium-bodied brew.

D - This is a very good IPA. It's even better on tap.

Cask. The nose presented a spicy, floral hop aroma. It is amber colored with no sign of head due to cask conditioning. Malt sweetness and hop bitterness are well balanced. I found this beer to be thin and oily slick. This is normally one of my favorite drinks at 75th Street.

Very basic for an ipa does not have very much depth in flavor. A cloudy orangeish color. Mild hop aroma. Smooth flavor. Again very mild IPA. Not a huge fan

Hazy copper. Steadfast, thick head leaves loose lace. Juicy tangerine hop nose with accompanying light caramel sweetness. Hint of bready malt. Bold hop bitterness eventually tapers allowing contrasting residual and light caramel derived sweetness to eek through. Moderate body, perhaps a touch thin in mouthfeel. Squeaky clean and devoid of esters. Good drinkability. A relatively well balanced IPA with a strong hop presence but only token malt character. Perhaps a bit green. Tasty.

Served on CO2 at the brewery into a nonic. Great coppery color with a white head that won't quit, leaving plenty of lace as its volume diminishes. A snootful of spicy hops greets you as you raise the glass, with some hints of darker caramel malt along for the ride. The taste is a pretty good balancing act, with the hops, unsurprisingly, winning out in the end after the caramel malt puts up a valiant but doomed effort. The hop aftertaste keeps the malt from being cloying, though the weight of the malt knocks this brew out of contention for session-beer status. All around a well made IPA that is without noticeable faults. I am jealous of those reviewers who had the opportunity to sample this on cask.

Nice coppery color, smell overtly hoppy. A nice one inch head of white foam. Left a nice lace around the glass.

Tastes, a really heavy, unpleasant level of hops. Not crisp at all. No malt taste whatsoever.

This might just be one of my least favorite IPAs of all time...but it looks good in the glass.

Sampled at the Brewery

Appearance = Coppery-bronze color, little or no head but the beer leaves considerable lacing on the glass. Light carbonation.

Nose = light aroma of hops

Taste = This is one for you hopheads. Lots and lots of yummy hops, enough malt to bring the beer into balance. Long hop-bitter finish. Good stuff.

The pour is a nice yellow and brown color with lots of bubbles. Very appetizing.

Smell of hops permeates - its not hiding much. Its all hops.

In fact the taste is a pretty general IPA. There isn't much coming to the table other than hops. Its not a bad beer, but it isn't great. I'd drink it again - over any macrobrew.

This orange colored ale exudes a very bold spicy hop aroma. The full body supports an initial sharp spiciness quickly followed by an aggressive bitterness rounded off with a malty bite. This is a hop-header for sure.

75th Street offered it in both tap and cask versions so definitely went with the cask version.

Poured a deep copper with a 2 finger head and nice foamy lacing.

Very nice hop and earthy aroma.

Pretty healthy hop flavor both earthy and piney variety. Decent hop bite in each aftertaste.

Mouthfeel is smooth up front and then the bite in the back, low carbonation.

Haven't had on tap before but as far as the cask goes this would be my regular to start out with anytime I stop in for a couple.

They don't always have this on cask, although they do always have it on forced CO2. It's too bad, really, as the cask version offers superior flavor and mouthfeel.

Also, it's "Good Hope IPA" for what it's worth. Good Hop is a clever pun, but apparently they're not that clever.

The beer comes from cask in a nice Imperial pint glass, with a good finger and a half head, all coppery orange and smelling of hops and malt, with a slight bready, earthy yeastiness that isn't present in the keg version. The smell is nothing short of divine, and the taste backs it up amply, delivering a satisfying (but not overwhelming) hop bill balanced perfectly by the caramelly malt. The flavor is largely citrus and pine with subtle hints of golden raisin and light fruit esters.

Mouthfeel--perfect. It doesn't get better than a creamy cask. I wish they had the Good Hope IPA on cask all the time.

A nice ambery-orange color with a thin white head.
Smelled nice, with some juicy bitter orange, lemon, and papaya.
Tastes included bitter orange and grapefruit, big hop bitterness. Pretty good but a little imbalanced.
Smooth and light bodied, but the somewhat unpleasant finish makes me not want too many.
One of those "smells better than it tastes" IPAs, but not bad.

Deep copper, slightly hazy with a nice, thick sticky light tan head. Lots of hop spice, citrus, and mile hemp aromas. Flavors are amazingly balnaced. Hops rule throughtout, butl malt offers a mild sweetness to the finish. Finish is also , long, dry and nicely bitter. Mouthfeel is flavorful, with a mild oilyness from the massive amount of hops. Round and smooth overall. Amazing balance! I could drink this all night. Had 2 pints and wanted more. An awesome beer, IMO. Not as bitter as their normal draft, but even better. Stop by this place and pray they have this available, and try it without hesitation.

1/2 Gallon strange looking growler. Copper. Dulled herbaceous and piney nose. Thin sweet caramel flavor with medicinal and herbaceous hops. English IPA’s really have to be good to impress me and this one wasn’t. Umm, by the way, this beer is actually called Goode Hope as in the Cape of Good Hope, South Africa. The beer is okay, I like the name though.
