Pours a dark amber colour, no head. Quite cloudy. Decent rim of lace, but not much.
Smells mega hoppy. Resinous, citric. Sharp and acidic. Lemony, orange. Could use more sweetness, but wow. Hopheads take notice.
Taste is very hoppy and hugely bitter. Three quarters of the palate is quite nice: citric and a touch of vanilla, just huge lemon. Then resin takes off then: hugely, astringently bitter. Too much, and blends with fortified alcohol notes. Could use more sweetness to balance. Has the same vibe as Mikkeller's 1000IBU, just overly bitter. Saturated in alpha acids and just not really my thing.
Thick, then gets boozey and strong and harsh from the hop acids. Can't really take that; it's too much.
If you really, really like hops, you might convince yourself you like this. But to me this is just too much. I daresay the over-the-top nature of this is kind of the point, but the big, astringent hop notes could just be tempered by a bigger malt presence. Just feels like it's tearing the roof of my mouth.
