Straight from the tap into a snifter style glass. This beer was dressed to impress. The waitress introduced it as follows:
[paraphrase]
"The Whiskey stout is different from our regular stout. Its been aged in Whiskey barrels for 6 months, and has an oak flavor. It also is higher in alcohol."

Appearance: The beer looks good. It has a nice dark complexion with a very low brown head on top.

Smell: I'm picking up lots of vague smells - some roasted malts, maybe something more sour, and a sweet tobacco odor.

Taste: The flaovr is a mix between a nice roasted, matly porter and white vinegar. I can only hope that I received a pour off an barrell that went bad. It has so much of a vinegar taste that I had to order another beer to 'chase' this beer with in order to finish it.

Nearly jet black, with crimson hints around the edge of the glass. Thin, but well retained beige head leaves decent lace. Subdued roasted grain in aroma, with a dominant oak tinged, lightly sweet, dark chocolate note. Clean. Becomes coffeeish, sharper and more enticing as it breathes. Mellow, vanilla oak undertone to a clean, slightly burnt, roasted barley presence. Understated black licorice note. Molasses like sweetness is a bit strong and isn't fully offset by the mild hop bitterness. Nearly creamy in mouthfeel-- quite soft, and almost silky. Finishes with a disparate roasted grain bitterness and residual non descript sweetness. Almost good... the flavors are not quite integrated. Tasty nonetheless. There's very little "whiskey" character here.
