hands down the best beer i have had from these guys, a big imperial brown with a lot of character. released for the solstice or the equinox as a lighter version to the winters ursa major. i love the beer, its sturdy as can be and almost has an oak property to it, although this is not wood aged. its not super dark brown, and has more chocolate malt aroma and flavor than anything darker or more roasted on the grain side. biscuit and caramel in the center, hints of vanilla and dark chocolate, as well as raisin and even plum, there is a lot going on here. its got a fuller body and great carbonation, its expansive and long lasting on the palate, really hearty brew, but also not too sweet at all, and hiding its alcohol extremely well. frankly one of the best larger brown ales in existence right now, everything about it is just right, not trying to be anything crazy, just a near perfectly built example of this style. remarkable mellow on the hops, which i think helps this be mellow and smooth and richer feeling, and with just a little biscuity yeast, maybe loosely english there. overall an incredible beer, cant wait to try the ursa major this year!
